v0.0.3 — AI Assistant v2, BOQ Generation & Project Management

Upgraded AI Assistant with conversation history and voice input, prompt-based BOQ generation, improved project management, and significantly better quantity accuracy.

This is a major release introducing an upgraded AI Assistant, a completely new way to generate Bills of Quantities through conversation, improved project management tools, and significantly better quantity calculation accuracy.

AI Assistant — Major Upgrade

The AI Assistant available at the end of the workflow has been significantly enhanced.

Conversation History

  • Your conversations are saved and organised into threads — like a chat history
  • Switch between past conversations from the sidebar, rename them, or start a new one
  • Messages persist across page reloads and browser sessions — nothing is lost

Voice Input

  • A microphone button appears next to the chat input
  • Click to start recording, speak your question, then click again to stop
  • Your speech is automatically transcribed and placed in the chat input, ready to send
  • Maximum recording length is 30 seconds

Blueprint Preview

  • When the assistant references a specific drawing page, you can view the actual PDF page directly in the side panel
  • Navigate between pages and see which floor and drawing type each page shows
  • An Open Full button opens the complete PDF in a new tab

BOQ Items Display

  • When the assistant shows BOQ items, they appear in a formatted table with columns for Code, Description, Quantity, Unit, Rate, and Amount
  • Items marked as "PC SUM" or "Included" display clear coloured badges
  • Section totals appear at the bottom of each table

Ask AI from Final Audit

A new button in the Final Audit step lets you jump directly to the AI Assistant with a pre-composed question about a specific line item.

Prompt-Based BOQ Generation

You can now create a complete Bill of Quantities entirely through conversation — no spreadsheets or drawings required.

  1. Choose Verbal Only when creating a new project
  2. The AI guides you through a structured interview: building type, floor area, number of floors, UK region, and finish level
  3. For renovations, the system asks additional questions about scope, building age, access constraints, and party wall requirements
  4. After confirming the project parameters, the system shows a budget breakdown across sections (e.g. Substructure, Superstructure, Services)
  5. Section by section, the AI selects appropriate items from your Price Library, calculates quantities, and saves items in real time
  6. A progress bar shows which phase you're in and how each section's budget is tracking
  7. Review, adjust, and refine at any point before finalising

Five building type templates are supported, each with UK regional pricing multipliers applied automatically:

  • New Build
  • Renovation
  • Extension
  • Fit-Out
  • Refurbishment

Project Management Improvements

Projects List

Each project card now shows more detail:

  • Total cost, cost per square metre, total area, building type, and region
  • A mini progress indicator showing which workflow steps are complete, in progress, or pending
  • Four summary cards at the top showing total, completed, in-progress, and draft project counts

Project Deletion

You can now delete a project entirely — all data is removed including blueprints, quantities, prices, analysis results, and AI search indexes. A confirmation dialog explains exactly what will be deleted before you proceed.

Archive & Unarchive

Projects can be archived to keep your list clean without deleting data. Switch between Active and Archived tabs on the projects page.

Improved Project Setup

  • The project creation form shows a visual grid of project types with clear descriptions
  • New context fields (Construction Type, Building Type, Project Size, Region, Complexity) help the system match more relevant prices
  • A preview shows which workflow steps will run based on your selected project type

Resume Interrupted Processing

If quantity processing was interrupted (e.g. page refresh or connection drop), the system now detects this and offers to resume from where it left off. A dialog shows the progress percentage at the point of interruption with options to Resume or Start Fresh.

Workflow Sidebar Navigation

The workflow now uses a persistent sidebar showing project name, completed steps, and tool navigation. On mobile, this collapses to a compact horizontal strip at the top.

Add More Drawings to Existing Projects

You can upload additional drawing files (e.g. structural drawings, M&E sheets) to a project that has already been analysed — without starting over or losing any existing data.

  • Available during the Extraction Preview screen and after Analysis is Complete
  • Click Add More Drawings, select your PDF, and the system classifies, extracts, and merges the new drawings into your project
  • Your existing data is preserved — the new file is merged seamlessly

This is useful when structural or specialist drawings arrive separately from the main architectural set.

Significantly Improved Quantity Accuracy

The core quantity calculation engine has been rebuilt with multiple new layers of intelligence. Items that previously came back blank or with incorrect numbers should now be resolved more accurately.

Room-Level Scope Detection

The system now understands when a BOQ item refers to a specific room or area (e.g. "bathroom floor tiles", "kitchen wall finishes", "first floor bedroom doors"). Instead of returning whole-building totals, it narrows the calculation to only the relevant rooms — fixing a major source of over-counting.

Automatic Unit Conversion

When the project data is stored in one unit but the BOQ expects another, the system now converts automatically. Supported conversions include area to linear metres, area to volume, and area to item count. Converted results are flagged with appropriate confidence levels.

AI Verification Agent

For items where the automated lookup produces a low confidence result or no result at all, an AI agent now steps in as a final check. The agent independently queries the project data, performs its own calculations, and provides a quantity with clear reasoning — reducing the number of items left blank for manual entry.

Smarter Pricing Strategy Detection

BOQ items are now automatically classified by pricing type:

  • Measured — Standard quantity × rate
  • PC Sum — Lump sum (shown with an amber badge)
  • Included — Cost bundled into another item (shown with a blue badge)
  • Provisional — Contingency or provisional amount

This prevents price inflation where lump-sum items were previously multiplied by unrealistic quantities.

Smarter Ceiling & Floor Calculations

  • Ceiling items that previously returned zero (when no dedicated ceiling elements existed in the drawings) now fall back to using floor area as an estimate
  • Floor finish elements are now correctly classified and no longer mistaken for wall elements

Duplicate Prevention

Elements appearing in multiple rooms with the same specification are now deduplicated before summing, preventing double-counting.

Confidence Indicators

All quantities now include a confidence score so you can quickly see which items the system is confident about and which need your review. Suspiciously large results are automatically flagged.

Bug Fixes

IssueFix
Page GroupingFixed an issue where blueprint pages were not being grouped correctly during analysis, which could result in missing or incomplete extraction data.
Quantity Data SavingFixed an issue where calculated quantities were not being saved correctly, causing some results to appear missing after successful calculation.
Price Finding GuardFixed an issue where the price-finding step could run on items that had no quantity yet, leading to errors. The system now waits until quantities are available.
Element ClassificationFixed incorrect classification of certain internal floor finish elements that were being treated as wall elements, leading to wrong area calculations.
Internal/External Wall DistinctionFixed an issue where internal and external wall areas were being combined instead of calculated separately.
Cost Breakdown DisplayFixed an issue where the cost breakdown panel showed an empty chart when no pricing data was available. It now shows a helpful explanation instead.

This update improves quantity accuracy by approximately 70% compared to the previous version and reduces the number of items requiring manual review.
